Council Approves Furniture Donations from Mayor

The council held its first meeting of the year Tuesday night.

The Scotch Plains Municipal Building will soon be outfitted with furniture donated by Mayor Nancy Malool herself.

During a rather light first council meeting on Tuesday night, which followed the township's annual reorganization meeting, council passed a resolution allowing the mayor to donate furniture from her law office to be used in the municipal building.

The donation includes one lateral 3-drawer file cabinet, one Toshiba copier, one large conference table and six conference table chairs to be used in the township's Emergency Operations Center; and a small sofa, two small tables and two chairs for the mayor's office in town hall.

The mayor tells Patch she recently moved out of her previous office at 328 Park Avenue into a one-room office in the same building.

"It's only one room and you can't fit 2 1/2 rooms of furniture into one room, so I thought it would go to good use in town hall," she said in an e-mail.

In other business at the meeting, the council approved two resolutions allowing organizations in town to hold raffles and games of chance throughout 2010.

The council's next meeting of the new year will be held on Jan. 19.
