A Tribute to Fallen Heroes Concert

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Memorial Day Parade Committee is pleased to announce a very special event for our Communities.  On Sunday, May 27, 2012, from 7 – 8:30 pm the Westfield Community Band will perform selections of patriotic music in a “Tribute to Fallen Heroes Concert” that will take place on the north side of the Fanwood railroad station.  In addition to the musical tribute, there will be testimonials by several of our community’s veterans honoring those who served our Nation past and present.

We are very fortunate to live in a country where so many brave men and women have fought for our freedoms.  Memorial Day is a solemn day, and one in which we should all reflect on the sacrifices made in defense of our nation.  We live in the greatest country in the world and that is only possible because of the many who sacrificed for us.  This Memorial Day, the SP-F Parade Committee asks that everyone take time to honor our fallen heroes, their families and all of our veterans.

Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr, invites all area residents to attend this musical Tribute.  Mayor Mahr, who is organizing the logistics for this event, stated, “Fanwood is pleased to be able to host the Tribute to further the traditions of our Memorial Day ceremonies”.  Committee member, and SP Councilman, Kevin Glover, who initiated the idea of the concert, and has taken on fund raising responsibilities, quoted President Abraham Lincoln, “Any nation that does not honor its heroes will not long endure”, as his motivation to help provide this concert to our towns.

This free event is being made possible through the generosity of our citizens.  Local veterans groups, civic groups, businesses and individuals have been contributing to make this a very successful musical Tribute.  Please consider donating to this concert.  Contributions of $250.00 will receive a special commemorative certificate of appreciation.  In addition to receiving a certificate, donations of $500.00 or more will be acknowledged at the “Tribute”.  Contributions should be made to the SP-F Memorial Day Parade Committee and be mailed to the Committee, c/o Toni Rollis, Town Hall, 430 Park Avenue, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076.
