Low Cost & Free Flu Shots for Area Residents

The Westfield Regional Health Department will hold one of several seasonal Flu Inoculation Programs today at the Fanwood Recreation Center on Forest Road. Only residents of Fanwood, Garwood, Mountainside, New Providence, Roselle Park, Springfield, Summit and Westfield are eligible and proof of residency may be required. Shots are administered on a first come, first served basis. Anyone with Medicare Part B coverage should bring their card to ensure receiving a free flu shot; all others will pay a $5 fee.

Who needs a flu shot? According to the CDC, anyone over 6 months old should receive one, but especially these groups:

- Anyone aged 65 or older, regardless of health condition
- Residents of long-term care facilities
- Anyone aged 2-64 with chronic health conditions
- Children aged 6 months or older who attend daycare or preschool
- Pregnant women
- Household contacts and out-of-home caregivers of children under 6 months old
