Vendors Wanted for Fanwood Green Fair in June

The Borough of Fanwood “Green Team” is looking for “green” vendors to be a part of their inaugural Green Fair scheduled for Tuesday, June 26, 2012 from 5:30 pm to 8 pm.  The event will be held in LaGrande Park as part of Fanwood’s annual “Party in the Park” and it’s kick off to the summer music series.

Individuals, organizations and businesses are all invited to be a part of sharing their “green” story as part of this educational and enlightening event.  Individuals and organizations are free, while businesses are asked to contribute $25.  Registration forms are available by visiting the Fanwood website at www.fanwoodnj.org or you may request information by contacting the Green Team at FanwoodGreenTeam@gmail.com.

The Borough of Fanwood became one of over 375 municipalities to register to work towards becoming a “green” partner and achieving certification as part of the Sustainable NJ campaign in the fall of 2011.  Mayor Mahr and the Borough Council appointed an extensive and diverse committee to work on completing a host of action items, many of which we are proud to have documented and have targeted other activities that will enhance all that we currently do.  Mayor Colleen Mahr is behind this initiative 100% and stated “I am so thrilled that this enthusiastic group of local volunteers has stepped forward to take on this challenging task.”  “Fanwood is committed to embracing and being recognized for the Sustainable community that it is,” she added.

The Green Team, led by chairwoman, Donna Dolce, indicated that some of those items already completed include; having a current Environmental Resource Inventory, activities generated by our Shade Tree Commission, an impressive recycling and waste management program, to name just a few.  They have also proposed and have had the council adopt an anti-idling ordinance, worked with the YMCA on a Community Wellness initiative and are partnering with our schools in support of our “Safe Routes to School” program.

We invite all of our residents to join us at this event, learn how to save money through solar heating for your home, register to be an energy partner or simply learn about the many exciting things going on in our community from our highly recognized recycling program, learn how to build a rain garden, or become a partner in the activities happening in our own Nature Center.
