Fanwood Convenes Town Hall-Style Meeting Monday Night

The meeting starts starts at 7 p.m. at the Fanwood Presbyterian Church.

For the first time in more than two years, Fanwood will convene a town hall-style meeting Monday night. The meeting is scheduled to start at about 7 p.m. at the Fanwood Presbyterian Church.

"We're a small close-knit community, and we are governing in very difficult times," Mayor Colleen Mahr said in a telephone interview. "As the elected leader of this town, I thought it would be nice to come together…. In good times and bad, it's my job to tell our residents about the state of affairs."

The meeting will encompass a wide array of topics, but it will focus on taxes and the Fanwood budget, Mahr said. Acting Police Chief Richard Trigo, Director of Public Works Clinton Dickson and Chief Financial Officer Fred Tomkins will also be on-hand to answer questions.

Mahr said she will also touch on the shared services report that was released to the public two weeks ago. She added, however, that she will try to avoid lengthy discussion about the report, in lieu of two public meetings scheduled for October and November.

Mahr said that she will speak for about 30 minutes, then open the floor to questions.  Fanwood last held a town hall-style meeting about two years ago to discuss the layoff of police personnel and other borough employees. That meeting was held in the Forest Road Park recreation building, which was filled to capacity.
