Fanwood Honors Exiting Councilman, Former Police Chief Tony Parenti

Also recognized at the meeting was Special Police Officer Jack Ross, Fanwood's Volunteer of the Month.

After six years, Tuesday was the final council meeting for two-term councilman Tony Parenti, former Fanwood police chief.

Parenti was honored by the mayor and council members with remembrances of his many contributions to the community. He received gifts including a framed Borough of Fanwood seal, print of the historic train station, a fleece jacket and a photo album.

Parenti, originally from Plainfield, has a 60-plus-year relationship with Fanwood public safety, as police officer, chief and director of the Union Council Police Academy. He is also a life member of the Fanwood Rescue Squad. Before the regular Council meeting, there was a reception for Parenti attended by many colleagues, including current Police Chief Richard Trigo, who was hired by Parenti.

Also recognized at the meeting was Special Police Officer Jack Ross, Fanwood's Volunteer of the Month, himself hired more than 30 years ago by Chief Parenti. Ross is a familiar figure at many of Fanwood's public events.
