Fanwood Planning Board Approves Temporary Cell Tower

At the Nov. 28 Planning Board meeting, the temporary construction of a T-Mobile cell tower was approved.

At the Nov. 28 meeting of the Fanwood Planning Board, it was approved that the borough would allow the temporary construction of a T-Mobile cell tower at One South Avenue and Terrill Road.

According to TheAlternativePress.com, the cell tower will be 100 feet tall and be located in the Young Paint and Varnish Company’s parking lot.

On Oct. 10 the Scotch Plains Planning Board approved a similar cell tower construction, although Scotch Plains approved two towers rather than one.

The reason for the temporary construction of these towers is to maintain current cell service while PSE&G removes old towers for repairs. Currently, T-Mobile and AT&T house their phone lines atop PSE&G towers.

Each tower will be built to stand only temporarily and be able to be easily deconstructed within a two-year time frame.
