The Borough of Fanwood said goodbye to council members Mike Szuch and Robert Manduca, who lost in the recent election. Fanwood also honored the Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Howard Drewes for his work during Sandy.

Mayor Colleen Mahr and Council President Russ Huegel said their final farewell to two current council members, Mike Szuch and Robert Manduca at the Dec. 18 council meeting.

Szuch and Manduca lost in the recent election for council to democratic candidates, Jack Moleenar and Dan Levine. The two departing members were awarded with plaques featuring the borough seal.

On the township website, Mahr was quoted saying, "It was a great pleasure to sit with them for the past three years."

Also at the Dec. 18 meeting, Fanwood Emergency Management Coordinator Howard Drewes was announced as volunteer of the month.

Drewes was honored for his hard work in having the borough prepared and informed both before and after Hurricane Sandy hit Fanwood.

As an award, Drewes was presented with a framed photograph of the Fanwood Train Station, which is given to each volunteer of the month.

According to the borough website, Drewes thanked both the Mayor and members of his Emergency Management Team for their efforts during Sandy.
