FW Urges PSE&G to Step Up Power Repair

The following message from Mayor Colleen Mahr was sent by email at 9:54 p.m. Monday.

Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr has urged PSE&G to move Fanwood higher on its priority list of power outage repairs. Almost half our town remains without power. PSE&G has said full power may not be restored until Labor Day. Union County's office of Public Information reports in a news release: "Power to Scotch Plains and Fanwood was cut off on Sunday afternoon due to water damage at electrical facilities. These areas may experience prolonged disruption of service; PSE&G reports that it will begin repairs after the water recedes, which may take 2-3 days.

To help residents cope with the power outage, the Fanwood Presbyterian Churchand Temple Sholom, located on Martine Avenue at Marian Avenue, are offering their facilities to residents who would like to refrigerate food, cook meals or charge their various electronic devices (pictured, Bob and Janet Soong of Arlene Court brought grand children Kalia, 3, and Tyler, 5, to charge their phone and electronic game Monday night). Residents may do so Tuesday, August 30th, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and again from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Enter through the Thrift Shop entrance on Marian Avenue.

The threat of falling trees, limbs and power lines is still very real. As recently as Monday afternoon, another tree branch took down a wire at Midway Avenue and Shasta Pass. All residents are urged to stay away from any downed wires.
