Letter to the Editor: SP Concert Series Organizers Thank Supporters

The township's Cultural Arts Committee organized five weekly performances this summer.

To the Editor:

Last Thursday saw the completion of a very successful Scotch Plains Cultural Arts concert series. For each of five Thursdays during the summer, hundreds of people were entertained under the stars. We were fortunate to have excellent weather each week, except for a bit of lightning at our concluding music festival.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people who made the concert series possible. First and foremost is Councilman Kevin Glover, whose tireless efforts and fundraising made the entire series possible. As Council Liaison to the Cultural Arts Committee, he helped host each concert and made sure everything went as smoothly as possible. Thanks also to Mayor Malool and the remainder of the Township Council for supporting the concert series for these many years.

A special thank you goes to our sponsors. The series was privately funded, so there would not have been a concert series at all without their generosity. Special thanks goes to the Scotch Plains Management Corporation for their generous donation, as well as the free ice cream each week (courtesy of ) and the coordination of the raffle prizes. Dominic Verdic did a tremendous job coordinating their efforts each week. A big thank-you goes to David Nunes and the crew at . In addition to their generous donation, they were at each concert with free water, goodies, and lots of other free stuff. Thanks also to Victor at for his donation. His presence at each concert providing delicious food certainly enhanced the proceedings.  I can certainly vouch for his food. Love those empanadas! Vinnie Losavio of was another major contributor.  It was great seeing Vinnie up on the stage with RB Express. The made a generous donation and helped make each concert more enjoyable with their presence. Great thanks go to PNC Bank and Comcast for their very generous donations as well.

Thanks go to our remaining sponsors for their generosity. They are: Hatch, Mott, MacDonald, the , , , Enterprise Rent-A-Car, , , the Scotch Plains Fanwood Youth Baseball, Soccer, and Lacrosse Associations, , , Kevin Glover, Sal Trifiro, and the Zimmerman Family.  A huge thank-you goes out to all our sponsors.

Special thanks go to my colleagues on the 2011 Cultural Arts Committee. They have helped make the concert series a tremendous success for many years. The series could not have come off without the hard work of Ray Poerio, Steven Dahl, and the rest of the staff of the Recreation Department. Thanks also go to Bill McMeekan and the folks at SPTV for their great work in their live broadcasting of the series.  Several people came up to me to tell me they were watching on television and decided to come by and see the fun in person.

The biggest thank you goes out to the hundreds of people who came out each week. The people who attended took the opportunity to get out of the house, get the kids away from the television and their computers for a few hours, and get to meet some new friends, while listening to some great music. I thoroughly enjoyed each Thursday night and I hope that all who attended at least one concert enjoyed it as well.

Hope to see you all next year!

Steve Goldberg
Chairman, Scotch Plains Cultural Arts Committee
