FW Power to be Restored by Sept. 5

The following message from Mayor Colleen Mahr was distributed by email at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

UNION COUNTY REMAINS UNDER A STATE OF EMERGENCY, which means travel by non-emergency personnel is still banned. Citizens are urged to stay off the roads for their own safety because trees, branches and power lines are still coming down.

THERE IS A CONTINUING THREAT POSED BY FALLING TREES, LIMBS AND WIRES. The saturated ground is causing many large, older trees to simply topple. This has resulted in major damage to a number of homes in the Borough and a number of street closures. While the storm has mostly passed, the danger has not.

A TROPICAL STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT as we continue to feel the lingering winds of Irene into the evening. The rain has mostly stopped. Rainfall was measured unofficially at more than 8-inches in Mountainside.

GOING FORWARD, the Borough of Fanwood will be open for business Monday, August 29th. However, the signs of the storm will be with us for many days to come. Utility trucks will be everywhere, cutting down trees, restoring electricity and clearing our roads. We ask your continued patience as repairs go on.
