Mayor Mahr Marries Same-Sex Couples in Red Bank

The Fanwood mayor was among several mayors who married same-sex couples at midnight on Monday.

At midnight on Monday, as same-sex marriage became legal in New Jersey, Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr officiated two marriages in Red Bank.

According to a report in the Star-Ledger, Mahr married her friend Councilman Ed Zipprich and his partner JP Nicolaides, as well as Laura Vitucci and Marlee Naporano, both of Red Bank.

"As a New Jersey mayor who supports equality for everyone, I was honored to be a witness to history by performing the marriage," Mahr said in the report. "Oct. 21, 2013 will forever be known as a historic day regarding civil rights in the State of New Jersey."
