Mitchell, Kranz to Be Sworn in at Fanwood Reorganization Meeting

All are invited to attend the borough's Jan. 1 meeting.

New Year's Day will bring the official start of a new council in Fanwood: Democrats Kathy Mitchell (incumbent) and Tom Kranz will be sworn in at the borough's reorganization meeting at noon on Jan. 1. All are invited to attend.

The two beat Republican challenger Jean Michelle Moore. For Mitchell, this will be her sixth term on council, while Kranz will serve for his first term.

"I'm thrilled to be elected," Mitchell told Patch on election night. "I'm very proud and honored that the voters trust me again. I'm starting my sixth term, which is basically unprecedented, and of course being a woman, that just makes everything great."

"As the mayor said tonight, I think we feel really lucky here in Fanwood that we have a really strong Democratic base, we had a really strong Democratic organization, because judging by the other results I've seen a lot of the other towns didn't do the same and that's a shame," Kranz told Patch on election night. "I just want to thank the mayor and mostly the voters of Fanwood for having faith in a first timer. I still have lot to learn, but I'm really looking forward to it."
