Planning Board Holds Final Meeting of 2012

Board members say goodbye at the possible last meeting with the same group of members.

Two new board members were sworn in at the Dec. 10 planning board meeting, as some of the past board members reflected on their experiences on the board.

James Fawcett and Richard Polhamus are the two recently appointed planning board members, both gave their oath to serve on the planning board at the Monday evening meeting.

Since four members terms are up at the end of the year, board member Joseph Doyle wanted to address the board about his time serving the board.

Doyle said it is very likely that new appointments will be made by the new mayor and not all of the members will be together in 2013.

“Regardless of whether we’re all back together again, my feeling for this board and for my expertise with this board is unparalleled,” he said.

Chairwoman of the Planning Board Paulette Coronato told Doyle how valuable his expertise is on the planning board and she hopes he will reach out to Mayor-Elect

Kevin Glover about serving again next year.

“We’ve certainly appreciated your contributions which have been invaluable to us,” Coronato said.

Councilman Bo Vastine asked who would be reapplying to serve on the planning board again next year and members Maria Sartor, Michael Michalsin and Doyle said they would be willing to serve again.

“The intelligence of every member that serves this board is really outstanding,” Doyle said. “The dedication and the towns well being is something that I have witnessed and am very proud to be part of.”

Coronato told the board members whom terms are expiring that she suggested Glover consider their reappointments. She added that it would be an opportunity for some continuity as the township transitions to his term as mayor.

“I’m hoping the newly elected mayor will follow through and hopefully all of you will be reappointed,” she said.

The only item on the planning board agenda for 2013 as of now is the Shackamaxon project, which is part of the redevelopment plan.

The next meeting of the planning board will be held on January 14, 2013 as the reorganization meeting.
