The state senator will replace Sen. Paul Sarlo, D-Wood-Ridge.
Sen. Nicholas Scutari, D-Linden, will be the new chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Scutari represents Fanwood, Scotch Plains and the other municipalities in District 22.
