POLL: Is It Fair To Judge Romney Based On His High School Behavior?

Former classmates of Mitt Romney have come forward with accounts that portray him as a high school bully, but we're wondering if you think it's fair to judge him on his alleged bad behavior.

“He can’t look like that. That’s wrong. Just look at him!’’

Mitt Romney said that to his high school classmates about a boy, John Lauber, with bleached blonde bangs, according to a story in the Boston Globe.

A few days after that statement, he allegedly "led a group of boys out of his dorm room at Cranbrook School and into Lauber’s, where the group tackled him and held him down. Romney cut his hair with scissors as a teary-eyed Lauber screamed for help."

Another highlight of his possible wrongdoing includes saying "Atta girl" every time a particular student that some perceived as effeminate or gay raised his hand.

Romney made a general apology, quoted from the Globe as, "If there was anything I said that was offensive to someone, I certainly am sorry about that."

He also told Fox New's Brian Kilmeade that “I participated in a lot of hijinks and pranks during high school and some may have gone too far. And for that I apologize" according to a Boston Herald article, but Romney didn't address any particular incident in either apology.

What do you think about our former Governor's past?  If these things are true, should they affect whether or not he becomes President, or are high school issues ridiculous to consider when judging an adult's fitness for a particular political office?  Vote in our poll and leave a comment with your thoughts.

You want to talk about crime? Hiding money overseas is a crime. America itself is a criminal. Let's not be all hypocritical . How much of you did drugs ? I don't like people who cast the first stone and are riddled with sin and criminal activity but you just didn't get caught!

People tend to lose perspective by viewing past events through today's moral filter. If you grew up in the 60's and 70's you probably tried pot. As for bullying - things were brutal by today's standards, with name calling and fist fights a daily event in the school where I grew up (Staten Island 40 years ago). I think the media is gettting too carried away trying to find dirt. (Do we know if either candidate ate their vegetables in grammar school?) Can we get the focus back on jobs, the deficit, the environment..........?
