Public Invited to Help with Fanwood Environmental Inventory

The Fanwood Environmental Commission wants your input into the town's environmental resource inventory.

The Fanwood Environmental Commission (FEC) is inviting its governing board as well as members of the public to attend its next meeting on Thursday, April 18th to discuss the town’s Environmental Resource Inventory (ERI).

The meeting will start at 7:30 pm in the second floor meeting room of the Community Building (the historic “old train station” building--above the Fanwood Museum) at the corner of Martine and North Avenues. This meeting will be devoted to a special workshop to work on the document. As part of the workshop, Commission members will briefly discuss the different aspects of the ERI and will answer questions about the document and Fanwood’s environment.

The Fanwood Environmental Commission is in the process of updating its Environmental Resource inventory, which was last completed in 2007. The ERI is an examination of a town’s natural resources—its soils, geology, vegetation, land use, groundwater, animal life, flood hazard areas, and much more is described and discussed. The document also looks into land use, recycling, water supply, sanitary collection, the Nature Center, butterfly gardens, parks, and transportation. Maps, diagrams, tables, drawings, and other illustrations are included as well.

Supported by a grant from the Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions and working with the environmental consulting firm of Amy S. Greene, Commission members are actively reviewing and revising the text and illustrations. The FEC will also be including photographs to depict specific aspects of Fanwood’s environment. Fanwood residents may submit photographs taken in the Borough of animals, plants, insects, water features, the Nature Center, butterfly garden, and anything else related to the environment and land use. If a resident’s photograph is used a credit line will be given in the ERI. Please note that photographs cannot be digitally altered in any significant way or modified to depict unnatural colors, places, or objects. High quality photographic prints can be dropped off at Borough hall (75 North Martine Avenue) or emailed to the Environmental Commission (Fanwoodec@fanwoodec.org). Use of any photographs will be solely at the discretion of the FEC.
