The township earned the privilege from the state after submitting what were deemed "sound" budgets.

The township of Scotch Plains has earned the ability to self-audit its finances for the next two years.

Councilman Jeffrey Strauss announced at the council meeting on Tuesday that the township became eligible to do so after submitting several budgets that the state considered "sound."

Strauss said the township will self-audit itself for the next two years, but will then be mandated the third year to be audited by the Local Finance Board.
