Scotch Plain's New Manager Starts Today

Christopher Marion starts his new job one day prior to the adoption of the township budget.

After months of operating without an official township manager, Scotch Plains will come under new leadership today.

Today is day one for Christopher Marion, who comes to Scotch Plains from West Windsor, where he served as business administrator up until last Tuesday.

Marion was officially appointed at the town’s council meeting on June 10, and now he comes into town one day before the public hearing and official adoption of next year’s township budget.

Marion’s last bit of work in West Windsor was similar to what Scotch Plains is facing now. It was a tough budget year there as well, and with the town's passing of its $36.5 million budget last week, it raised municipal taxes by 5.04 percent over last year.

Now in Scotch Plains, Marion won't play much of a role in this year's budget battle. He says one of his first priorities will actually be getting busy on the next budget.

"The budget process begins in August, but for a new manager it begins in July,” he said.

Marion previously told Scotch Plains-Fanwood Patch that his other top goals are "getting up to speed on the municipal budget, learning about township operations, meeting with department heads and employees and setting an agenda for the upcoming year."
