State Education Aid To Scotch Plains-Fanwood Increases by $700K
Town schools to see $770,352 increase in aid from state
State aid to Scotch Plains-Fanwood public schools will increase by over $700,000 this year, following a where Governor Chris Christie announced an overall increase of funding for school aid.
Last year, Scotch Plains-Fanwood recieved $659,090 in aid. This year they will recieve $1,429,442, up by $770,352.
During his budget address to the state Legislature on Tuesday, Christie announced that he was increasing the total amount of education aid by $250 million in the next state budget. In the budget he proposed last year, Christie cut state education aid, resulting in most school districts losing between 75-percent and 100-percent of their education aid from the state.

Last year, Christie proposed a cut of $819 million in state aid to schools, a cut equal to no more than five percent of the total Board of Education budget. Scotch Plains-Fanwood lost 84.4 percent of its aid, a $3.84 million dollar cut.
