This Week Ahead: Week of Monday, April 9

Jazz music, family story time, and art galleries galore! Don't miss these standout events happening in your town this week.

The Scotch Plains & Fanwood Arts Association will hold its 46th Annual Members Art Show at the Gallery from March 31, 2012 to April 28, 2012. The Arts Association is a group of local artists who meet four times a year for workshops or demonstrations at the Patricia Kuran Cultural Arts Center in Fanwood. Original works in oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, photography, graphite/pencil, and mixed media will be exhibited.

Fanwoodian families are invited to attend Family Storytime at the from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10. Children under 4 yrs. should be seated with a parent or caring adult. Prior Sign-up is NOT required. Come as you are; pajamas or sleepytime attire is encouraged.

On Friday, April 13, Veronica Lawlor, artist and author of One Drawing A Day: A 6-Week Course Exploring Creativity with Illustration and Mixed Media, will visit the Scotch Plains Library to for adults and teens. On Saturday, April 14, FYO Baseball will host a the Aquafina MLB Pitch, Hit and Run Competition at in Fanwood for area youth. This is an official skills competition of Major League Baseball, designed to give young people an opportunity to compete free of charge in core baseball skills. Competitors are eligible to advance to the Team Championship at Yankee Stadium and the National Finals held at the All Star Game.

The Fanwood Cultural Performing Arts Series will kick off at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, at the Carriage House with a night of jazz music. The Alec Goldfarb Trio will be opening the evening playing a current mix of jazz infused with R&B, Motown and rock. There will be a 20 minute intermission which will include tea, coffee, cold drinks and some home baked goods. A $10 donation for adults, $5 for seniors and students is requested. All proceeds go to the Performance Series and to fund the ongoing development of the performing arts in Fanwood.
