Following the Scotch Plains Town Council conference meeting on Tuesday, January 3, at 7 p.m., the Mayor will give her address to the residents of Scotch Plains at the reorganization meeting which begins at 8 p.m.

On January 6, at 7 p.m., the will be holding a “Special Needs Teen Night Out.” The Y notes that while special needs children ages 3 to 12 may have many opportunities to socialize, often that is not the case for special needs teens. The theme of this monthly event will be Summer in Winter; teens will enjoy swimming, dancing, pizza and more. To learn more, click

will host Book Bingo on Friday, January 6, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. Children must be able to read or be accompanied by a buddy who can help.

The Theater Project, who often performs at , is now accepting submissions for their 10th Annual Young Playwrights Competition. The competition seeks original works only, no adaptations. All submissions must be at least 10 but no more than 30 pages typed in play format, and all entrants must be New Jersey residents in secondary schools (ages 13 to 18).  

Entries must be postmarked by January 23, 2011 to P.O. Box 101, Union , NJ 07083. The entrance fee is 5 dollars. First place will receive a $600 savings bond, second place will receive a $400 savings bond and third place will receive a $200 savings bond. The winners will have the honor of seeing their creations performed live by the Theater Project.
