Scotch Plains Featured in Wall Street Journal

A real estate feature titled 'Long History is Kept Alive in Scotch Plains' ran on Saturday.

Did you see it?

Scotch Plains was touted for its "old-fashioned suburban appeal," "hometown feel" and family-friendliness in a feature titled "Long History is Kept Alive in Scotch Plains" in the Wall Street Journal's Aug. 31 real estate section.

"It's really kept a lot of the hometown feel," said Gina Suriano Barber, of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage. "The town pretty much looks the same. It's kept up with the times, but I wouldn't really say there has been much of a change at all—in a good way."

The article lists several properties for sale and gives an overview of what's available in different parts of town for house-hunters. Mayor Kevin Glover is also quoted and mentioned the possible merger of Scotch Plains and Fanwood police departments.

Other town highlights mentioned were "longtime mom-and-pop businesses lining Park Avenue, its main thoroughfare; communitywide enthusiasm for school sports; and summertime concerts on the village green."

"It's a very family oriented area," said Paul Lamastra, co-owner of ERA Suburb Realty, in the article. "It's just one of those towns where everybody knows each other, it's friendly, it's safe, the schools are really good."
