Board of Education Accepting Nominations for Open Seats

The deadline is March 1, 2010.

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Board of Education has announced that it will have two full 3-year terms open for Scotch Plains and one full 3-year term and one 1-year unexpired term open for Fanwood come April.

The board is now accepting nominating petitions for those who want to be included on the April 20 election ballot. The current deadline to submit the nominating petition is 4 p.m. March 1.

Prospective BOE members can obtain a "School Board Candidate Kit" online at www.njsba.org. Published by the New Jersey School Boards Association, the kit includes a nominating petition, information about legal qualifications for school board candidacy and the role of the school board member.

One of the seats is that held by Fanwood mom Amy Winkler. Winkler was chosen by the board in October to replace Sacha Slocum, who resigned in August to focus more on her new job. Slocum's term was due to be up in April, thus leaving Winkler to fill the spot until then and then have to run in the election should she want to stay on board.
