BOE to Hold Public Sessions to Introduce Budget

There will be two public budget presentations at Terrill and Park Middle and then a public hearing at the BOE Administrative offices.

The following information was provided by the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Board of Education.

Scotch Plains-Fanwood Proposed Budget

Throughout January and February the Board of Education has been hearing presentations and holding discussions regarding the proposed 2013-2014 School Budget.

On February 9, 2012 the Board passed a resolution to change the election date of School Board Members to the November General Election, pursuant to Public Law 2011 (State Bill 3148).  This change remains in effect through November 2015.  Corresponding with this law, there will NOT be a public vote on the 2013-2014 School Budget in April as the proposed budget is below the allowable 2% Cap.

While there will not be a public vote, The Board with the support of the PTA Council has planned two public “coffees” to share the Proposed 2013-2014 School Budget with our communities.  These sessions will take place at Park Middle School on March 12 and at Terrill Middle School on March 19.  Both sessions will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will include a budget presentation as well and Q&A.

The Public Hearing on the 2013-2014 Budget will take place March 21 at 8:00 p.m. at the Administrative Office at Evergreen Avenue and Cedar Street.

Please join Dr. Hayes and members of the Board of Education to hear the proposals that will highlight the districts operating budget, including enrollment and staffing needs, educational initiatives supported by the budget, security and facilities projects and the tax impact of the 2013-2014 school budget.
