Brief: Seven Candidates File for BOE Election

Two seats are open in Scotch Plains, and one seat is open in Fanwood.

Seven candidates have filed for three open seats on the . Board member Warren McFall, who represents Scotch Plains, is the only incumbent on the slate. Donald Parisi, chairman of the board's Finance Committee and a representative of Scotch Plains, and Rob O'Connor, chairman of the board's Personnel Committee and a representative of Fanwood, have declined to run for reelection.

McFall will be competing against Victor DeVizio, Douglas Layne and Melanie Root for the two open seats for Scotch Plains. Hopefuls Jeanne Cleary, Michael Lewis and Margaret Savoca are running for the single open seat for Fanwood.

O'Connor, contacted by telephone Wednesday evening, said he decided not to seek reelection largely due to increasing time commitments at work. "I've been driven pretty hard to travel more than I'd like to," he said. "I can't put the time into the board that I think it deserves. There's some very capable people running.... I feel very confident that we're going to get a good person on the board."
