Early Dismissal for Schools Today

Snowfall amounts of 12 to 16 inches are still predicted for this area.

Scotch Plains-Fanwood Schools will close at midday in anticipation of the worsening of the heavy snowstorm.

Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School will close first at 12:08 p.m., followed by the middle schools at 12:20. The elementary schools will let out at 12:40 p.m.

Over at St. Bartholomew Academy, students will have a noon dismissal. The Science Expo that was scheduled for this evening there has also been canceled.

Union Catholic High closed at 11 a.m. All afternoon, evening and Adult School classes at Union County Vocational Technical Schools have also been canceled.

As of early this morning, the National Weather Service had snowfall predictions for the SP-F area at 12 to 16 inches, with higher amounts possible in some areas. The winter storm warning remains in effect through 6 p.m. Friday.

One positive note: despite the onset of the storm, local girls scouts are still expecting their truck delivery of cookies to arrive in town this morning.
