Explore Social Media at Scotch Plains Public Library

It is clear that communication and networking have been transformed by the use of Facebook, LinkedIn and other social media websites.  These days it is nearly impossible to apply for a job, keep in touch with far-flung acquaintances, and develop a business presence without using these digital tools.  To learn more about getting started with LinkedIn and Facebook and maximizing their effectiveness, the Scotch Plains Public Library invites
the public to attend two free workshops.  The workshops will be led by Leora Wenger, who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her audience.  Both programs will include a formal presentation, to be followed by an informal discussion period.

On Thursday, April 19, 2012 at 7 pm, Wenger will speak about LinkedIn.  LinkedIn is a popular social media platform for establishing business connections.  In this workshop on LinkedIn, Wenger will present how to set up a LinkedIn profile, how to connect with others, ways to meet others in
your professional field or in your geographical area by using groups, and how employers go about using LinkedIn to find potential employees.  Whether you are a newcomer to LinkedIn or you have been on the platform for years,
you are welcome to attend this workshop and share your questions and your experiences with the platform.

Monday, May 7th, 2012 at 7:00 pm – Facebook
Facebook is the most popular social media platform.  A free-access  social networking site, one can share with friends, connect with business associates, join groups, learn about products and services,  store and share photos, play games and use a variety of applications.  In this
workshop, Leora Wenger will present how to set up a Facebook profile, discussing privacy issues and the basics of sharing.  We will compare personal profiles, business pages and groups and learn when to use each one.  Newcomers and those experienced with Facebook are both welcome.

Leora Wenger builds websites for small businesses, libraries and three Rutgers University departments.  She has given talks at New Jersey libraries about social media, including Twitter and Facebook.  She loves tweaking PHP, composing a striking web design, stretching Wordpress, and publicizing sites.  In her spare time she's a mom, wife and daughter.

Both programs are free and open to all interested members of the public.  Registration is recommended.  Interested attendees can reserve a place by calling 908-868-1548 ext. 204, emailing to library@scotlib.org  or responding via the library’s website, http://www.scotlib.org.  The Scotch
Plains Library is located at 1927 Bartle Avenue, one block from Park Avenue in the center of town. Driving directions and more information can be found on the library website, http://www.scoltib.org.  All are welcome.
