Fort Delaware Civil War Prison — So Close to Home!

On Saturday, May 15th, at 11 am,  Kay Keenan of the Fort Delaware Society will speak about Fort Delaware Civil War Prison. Covering approximately 6 acres on an island located between New Jersey and Delaware, Fort Delaware served as a prison for Confederate prisoners of war, most of who were captured at Gettysburg. 2,436 Confederate prisoners died at Fort Delaware and their bodies were transported by boat to the New Jersey side of the Delaware River and buried in trenches.
