Terrill Middle School students Gabriella Kowalczyk and Lia Saputo chose to volunteer at The Children's Institute in Verona New Jersey, reading to children with autism.

Scotch Plains residents and students at Terrill Middle School, Gabriella Kowalczyk and Lia Saputo spent a morning reading to students at The Children’s Institute, (TCI) a school for those ages 3-21, on the autism spectrum and with related disabilities, located in Verona.

As part of a service learning component offered at the middle school, the two decided to focus on autisim awareness because they wanted to learn more about autism and how they could help children their age who had been diagnosed with autism and related disabilities.

Students from seven northern New Jersey counties who have been diagnosed with autism, attend TCI.  For more information about TCI or to volunteer, call 973-509-3050 ext. 231 or go to www.tcischool.org .
