SP-F School Make Up Days Decided at Board of Ed Meeting

At the Nov. 29 Board of Education meeting, it was announced how students will make up the days missed due to Hurricane Sandy.

Since Hurricane Sandy hit Scotch Plains and Fanwood one month ago today, the SP-F schools are still under the 180-day requirement. At the Nov. 29 Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Dr. Margaret Hayes announced how the students will make up the days they have missed.

All schools will hold a single session day on January 21, 2013, which is Martin Luther King Jr. day.

All schools will also hold a full day of school on February 18, 2013, which is President’s Day.

Elementary schools will hold a single session day on June 21, 2013, since those schools were closed an additional day than the High School and Middle Schools.

Coles and School One were closed an extra day than all of the other schools due to power outages and they will hold a single session day on the Monday after the last week of school, which is June 24, 2013.

Dr. Hayes noted that Spring Break is still intact but was left in case any bad weather hits Scotch Plains-Fanwood this winter.

Hayes said that usually when looking for make up days they have already passed these holidays, but since Sandy hit early they have more options.

“Let’s hope for milder days,” she said.

If schools have to close again the board will revisit Spring Break or take days out Spring Break.
