SPF Bests Westfield, 2-1

The Raiders top the Blue Devils in the teams' first meeting of the season.

THE RECORDS: Scotch Plains and Westfield entered their first rivalry match of the season on Thursday at with two wins and one loss apiece. 

THE SCORE: 2-1, Scotch Plains. Westfield scored first, putting the ball in the net in the final seconds of the first half.

In the second half, Scotch Plains' Collin Stripling, assisted by Andrew Leischner, blasted a shot into the net, tying the game at one. Travis Cortes went on to score the game-winning goal from about 35 yards out.

THE HEROES: Stripling, Leischner and Cortes, as well as goalie Vinny Bianco, who kept Westfield to only one goal.

THE QUOTE: "We were the stronger team in the beginning," Breznitsky said. "We gave up a goal in the first half, but we had a talk at halftime. We came out strong in the second half."
