This Week Ahead: Week of Monday, March 26

Schools, schools and more schools! Variety Shows, musicals, and fundraisers top the list of this week's happenings around town.

Music lovers of every age are invited to come out on Wednesday, March 28, and support SPF instrumental music at the District Instrumental music festival and Quarter Dip fundraiser. Enjoy the beats and buzz of the Terrill Middle School jazz band and raise money to support the Music Boosters.The event will be held at Doors open at 6 p.m.

On Wednesday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m., the noted author and teacher Dean Sluyter (www.deansluyter.com) will in a private home. There is no charge, and no experience is required. Sluyter, who has lead thousands of workshops, lectures, and classes combines many traditions to help bring awareness to every aspect of life.

On Friday, March 30, will welcome local families for an evening of board game play. Bring the family, or friends or come alone and meet new friends. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. The fun begins at 6 p.m. Little Shop of Comics is located on Park Avenue in downtown Scotch Plains, across from the municipal building.

students will perform in the spring Variety Show at 3:30 p.m. on March 29 and 7 p.m. on Friday, March 30. School and McGinn Elementary also have variety shows at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 31.

On Saturday, March 31,in Scotch Plains will host their “Pot of Gold” 2nd Annual Family 5K Run/Walk. This year, the fundraiser will also include a fun run for kids ten and under. For a .

Fanwood’s annual Easter Egg hunt will be held on Saturday, March 31 at 10 a.m. in Forest Road Park. Scotch Plains youngesters will have their turn to hunt for colorful eggs at 11 a.m. at Parents - get their early, the hunt is over in a flash. Happy Spring SPF!

On Thursday, March 29,at 7:30 p.m.,  the Academy for the Performing Arts in Scotch Plains will premier the spring production of the award winning musical, “The musical is based on the life and novel written by Louisa May Alcott. The production is directed by Juan Pineda, a Broadway veteran and Valerie Pineda, founder of the Pineda Lyric Opera, and a professional opera singer, music director, and director.

Additional performances include Friday, March 30th at 7:30 pm and Saturday, March 31st at 2 pm & 7:30 pm.  The performances will be held at the Black Box Theatre, Academy for Performing Arts, Union County Vocational-Technical Schools at 1776 Raritan Road in Scotch Plains.  All seats are $11 and tickets can be purchased at http://www.apamusicals.eventbrite.com/.
