Union Catholic Seniors Names NJ Rising Scholars

UC Seniors Andres Aguaiza and Kiana Hawkins have been selected as recipients of the 2012 New Jersey Rising Scholars Student Recognition Award.

Union Catholic High School is proud to announce that Seniors Andres Aguaiza of Roselle Park and Kiana Hawkins of Irvington have been selected as recipients of the 2012 New Jersey Rising Scholars Student Recognition Award.   


The New Jersey Rising Scholars Student Recognition Program was established by the NJ Department of Education, in collaboration with the NJ Amistad Commission and the Malcolm Bernard Historically Black Colleges and Universities committee, to honor the academic achievement of high school seniors from diverse backgrounds who are interested in attending a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). The criteria for Rising Scholar students is attendance at a New Jersey public, private or charter school, a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher and a SAT score of 1350 or above.

Each Rising Scholar has the opportunity to meet recruiters participating in the Malcolm Bernard HBCU College Fair from which they may be able to receive application fee waivers. They may also be eligible for one of several $1,000 HBCU Rising Scholar Fund Scholarships to be announced in the spring of 2013.
