MATCHES TO WATCH

The Union County Tournament is down to its final two contestants, top-seeded Westfield (12-2-1), No. 17 in The Star-Ledger Top 20, and No. 16 Scotch Plains (12-2-2). The final is slated for Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Kean University in Union.

Scotch Plains has won four of the last five titles and is 2-0-1 against Westfield in the finals during that stretch. The last time Westfield beat Scotch Plains in the final was 1996.

The UCT is down to its last match, but that does not mean there aren’t a few intriguing contests to watch to help the teams gear up for the sectional tournaments that begin on Halloween next Monday. Scotch Plains travels to Union on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. game. Scotch Plains won the first meeting, 3-0, and then hung on for a 2-1 victory in the UCT quarterfinals.

Westfield reached the final with a 2-1 victory over Summit on Sunday.

On Friday, the UCT semifinalists will switch up, as Westfield travels to Gov. Livingston, while Summit visits Scotch Plains. Both games are at 4 p.m.
