Update: School District Still Monitoring Absences

The superintendent says there hasn't been an increase from last week yet.

This is following up on a story we brought you earlier this week about an increase in absences in the public schools for flu-like symptoms.

Scotch Plains-Fanwood School District Superintendent Margaret Hayes said this afternoon that the district is continuing to keep track of absences daily, but that so far they haven't seen an increase over last week.

"We’re holding the course," she said. "We're still analyzing student attendance, and at this point we’re monitoring it every day and the schools are still open."

Last week, the district released a statement to parents that said the schools had seen an increase in students out for flu-like symptoms over the past week. The district is asking parents to keep their children home for seven days if they notice any symptoms.
