Winkler Officially on School Board

The Fanwood mom will serve until April.

Fanwood mom Amy Winkler was sworn into her seat on the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Board of Education Thursday night.

Winkler gave her oath to board secretary Anthony DelSordi at the beginning of the meeting. She then went and took what will be her seat for the next five months. Her husband and two children were there for support.

Winkler is taking the place of former board president Sacha Slocum, who resigned in September after nearly five years of service. She was selected for the position during a special meeting of the board on Oct. 27.

Winkler has been a resident of Fanwood for the past 12 years and has two children, a daughter in third grade and a son in kindergarten – both at J.A. Coles Elementary. She will serve on the board for the remainder of the school year, when, as a special appointee, her term will expire. Winkler will have to run for the seat again at the board elections in April of next year if she wishes to continue as a board member.

Fellow board members welcomed Winkler to her new role during their meeting Thursday night. The Fanwood mom thanked them for the opportunity, while abstaining from all votes of the evening regarding matters she was not previously involved with.
