The big story of the week belongs to the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Boys Varsity swimming team, who triumphed over Mountain Lakes 99-71 in the North Jersey Public B Semi-Final. The 14-1 Raiders are gunning for their first state title against undefeated Princeton in the State Championship this Sunday, February 27th at 10:30 a.m. at The College of New Jersey.
The Union Catholic Boys indoor track team also enjoyed great success, taking home the silver at the Non-Public A Championships at the John Bennett Indoor Athletic Facility in Toms River. Allen Eke was second in the 800 with a time of 1:54.20. Alex Sarkodie placed second in the high jump, clearing 6-foot-2, and fourth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.97. The 4x400 team and shot putter Marcus Sanchio each placed second with a time of 3:26:70 and a throw of 50-2 respectively. Braden Rembert was sixth in the 55-meter dash.
The girls team placed 10th overall. Morgan McLaughlin won the 55-meter hurdles in 8.44. Jenna Socci was sixth in the 1600 in 5:27.90, and the 4x400 relay team placed fifth.

Wrestling
Union County Tournament: The Raiders finished seventh with 41 points at the District 11 Tournament at Westfield. Sophomore 285 -pounder Anthony Tufaro was second and junior 140-pounder Mike Steinfeld was third. Both Raiders qualified to wrestle at the Region III tournament.
Tuesday, Feb. 22: Sophomore 285-pounder Anthony Tufaro (33-6) won his Region III pre-quarterfinal bout. Tufaro will meet Seton Hall Prep senior William Salovitch in Friday night’s quarterfinal round. Junior Mike Steinfeld’s season ended with a 5-1 loss to Watchung Hills’ junior Mike DiVito.
Indoor Track
Kathleen Leeper was sixth in the 3,200 meter run at the State Group III meet at the John Bennett Indoor Athletic Center in Toms River.
