Baylock Hosts Baseball Summer Training Camp

SPFHS Coach Tom Baylock hosts two, four-day camps behind Park Middle School. Registration for the first session ends tomorrow.

Just because the high school season is over doesn't mean things lighten up for Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School baseball coach Tom Baylock.

Baylock, who is the coach of the Raiders' American Legion team, is preparing for his 10th annual summer baseball camp. It starts in two weeks at the Park Middle School baseball field, but payment for the first four-day session is due Friday.

Week one runs between July 6 and 9, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 and is open to boys entering grades one through nine. The second week runs from July 19 to July 23 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The camps are $150 per week. Payment is due June 25 for week one and July 9 for week two. Those interested in attending the camp can contact Baylock at tbaylock@spfk12.org.

"We work on all the skills – we teach drills to use,'' Baylock said. The camp focuses on batting mechanics, individual position play, base running; sliding and camps end with a game. All campers will receive a t-shirt.

"We teach how to do it the "Raider way,''' said Baylock, who has been directing the camp for the last 10 years. ""Hopefully it'll carry over to high school.''

Baylock is assisted by his high school staff and some Raider alumni.

"We usually have between 75 and 90 kids per week,''said Baylock. "Each day we play a game at the end of the day with coaches pitching and of course the instruction doesn't stop.''
