Ponderosa Park Ribbon Cutting
The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, State, local officials from Scotch Plains and Fanwood, children and soccer teams are scheduled to join in on the official opening and ribbon cutting for the 22 acre Ponderosa Farm Park at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19.
The facility was the home estate of the late Norman “Dutch” Sevell, owner of Sevell’s Auto Body and towing in Westfield, was saved from development by the Union County Open Space Trust Fund under of the direction of the Union County Freeholder Board in 2003. The park, which remains a County-owned facility, was developed by Union County’s Open Space Trust Fund, and will be maintained by Scotch Plains.
The new park includes walking trails, two multipurpose fields for soccer, restroom facility, a variety of age-appropriate modern playground equipment—including two large main playground stations designed with farm themes, a climbing station, swings, and a “dancing” spray fountain in the center of the playground.
