Fanwood-Scotch Plains 'C' Team Wins Second Meet of Season

Several team members captured 1st place honors.

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA 'C' division gymnastics team hosted its second meet of the season on Saturday, February 20. The Fanwood-Scotch Plains team came out on top with a team total of 98.35 over East Orange (92.75), South Mountain (92.2) and Somerset Valley (89.8). 

In the 10 and 11-year-old age group, Abigail Kennedy captured the 1st place honors on both the Uneven Bars and the Balance Beam. Morghan Johnson's performances earned her 2nd place on the Uneven Bars, 4th on Balance Beam and 5th on Vault. Kristy Cerini was awarded the 2nd place ribbon on balance beam. 

In the 12-and-over age group, Sydne Powers turned in strong performances on all four events, receiving the 1st place All Around award, as well as 1st place on Vault, Balance Beam and Floor Exercise. Marissa Lamastra tied with her teammate on Balance Beam, receiving top honors on that event, while also being awarded 3rd on Floor Exercise and 4th on Vault. Sara Rocha earned 2nd place on Vault and 4th place on Floor Exercise. Teammate Arielle Margulies enjoyed a good meet, earning 3rd place on both Vault and Balance Beam. Danielle Rosenblatt's fluid dance earned her the 2nd place honors on Floor Exercise. Rebecca Leonard earned 2nd place on Balance Beam. Emily Isola competed on Balance Beam and Naomi Porter turned in solid performances on both vault and balance beam to contribute to the team's victory.

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA will be hosting their next meet on March 7 (C team Division). Spectators are welcome.

Later in March, during Scotch Plains-Fanwood's Spring Break, the gymnastics department will be hosting several clinics and specialty programs, including an Acro clinic, Just Floor classes and special Open gym times. In addition to these special offerings, there are still some spaces available in the Early Spring gymnastics classes. The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA offers gymnastics classes for children of all ages. Please call 908-889-8880 for more information.
