Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Gymnasts Win Both Divisions in Final Home Meet

The gymnastics team held their final home meet on Feb. 23 and won in both divisions. Senior Zoe-Nicole Stein was honored at the end of the meet.


The following information was provided by the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA.

Just two weeks since their last meet, the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA "A" and
"B" Division Gymnastic Teams hosted a meet on Saturday, February 23rd
against teams from South Mountain and Somerset Valley YMCAs.   The home team won the meet in both Divisions.  

This meet marked the final home meet for the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA teams only graduating high school senior this year:  Zoe-Nicole Stein.  The team honored Stein at the end of the meet and presented a bouquet of flowers.  Stein is a long-time member of the team, having begun in the Y Gymnastic program in preschool!

In the "A" Division, both Stein and Kacie Bumiller competed in the Level 9
competition.    Each had great meets.  Awards were not presented that the
Level 9 Division but both gymnasts continue to tweak their routines in
preparation for the upcoming championship season.


In the Level 8 competition, Lauren Lockfeld captured 1st Place All Around.
Lockfeld also earned 1st Place on Uneven Bars, 2nd Place on Vault and 3rd on
both Balance Beam and Floor Exercise.  Abigail Fontana was awarded 3rd Place
All Around.  Fontana also scooped up 2nd Place on Uneven Bars and Floor
Exercise.  Fourth place All Around went to Paige VanBuskirk who captured 1st
Place honors on Floor Exercise.  Marissa DiBella placed 3rd on Vault and 4th
on the Uneven Bars.  Wrapping up the Level 8 contingent, Heather Mullen
topped the podium receiving 1st Place for her Balance Beam routine.

In the "B" Division, four gymnasts represented the Fanwood-Scotch Plains
YMCA.  Competing in the 12 and under age group, Brooke Vaccaro earned 2nd
Place All Around.  Vaccaro was also awarded 1st Place on Floor Exercise, and
2nd on Vault, Uneven Bars and Balance Beam.

In the 13 and over age group, Kristy Cerini captured 2nd Place All Around.
Cerini also earned 1st Place on Floor Exercise and 3rd on Vault, Uneven Bars
and Balance Beam.  Abby Kennedy was 3rd All Around, earning 1st Place honors
on Vault and Balance Beam and 4th on Floor Exercise.  Fourth place All
Around was awarded to Meghan Yessman who also received 1st Place on the
Uneven Bars and 2nd on both Vault and Balance Beam.

The next home meet will be the "C" Division on Saturday, March 2nd.  

Summer Camp registration at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA is going on now! Camps at the Y include: Gymnastic and Cheerleading camps, as well as full day
camps and other specialty camps. Limited spaces are available for the
presently running Early Spring gymnastics classes offered at the Y also
include parent-toddler and preschool classes.  Gymnastics classes for
school-age girls are offered Monday through Saturday at the Martine Avenue
facility.  This is a great time to begin taking gymnastics at the Y!
