Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Gymnasts Win First Competitive Meet of the Season

They "A" Division Team of the YMCA gymnasts took first place over Somerset Valley on Jan. 5.



The months of practice have finally led to the start of the competitive season for the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY) Gymnastics Teams.  Competing in their first meet of the season on Saturday, January 5, 2013, the “A” and “B” Division teams hosted teams from South Mountainand Somerset Valley YMCAs.  The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA “A” Team took first place over Somerset Valley 99 to 94.15 respectively.  The B Teams “flip-flopped” with Somerset Valleytaking the win over FSPY 97.2 to 95.9.

 

In the “A” Division, two Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA gymnasts competed in the Level 9 competition.  Senior Zoe-Nicole Stein had great first meet, capturing 1st place All Around.  Stein also earned 1st place on the Uneven Bars and Balance Beam and 2nd place on Vault.  Kacie Bumiller received 2nd place All Around and was awarded 1st place on Vault and Floor Exercise and 2nd place on the Uneven Bars.

Five “A” Division gymnasts from the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA competed in the Level 8 competition.  In the 15 and under age group, Paige VanBuskirk captured 3rd place All Around and on Vault, Uneven Bars and Floor Exercise.  In the 15 and over age group, Lauren Lockfeld earned 1st place All Around as well as on Vault and Floor Exercise.  Lockfeld also received 2nd place on Balance Beam.  Marissa DiBella was awarded 2nd place All Around and in Vault and Uneven Bars.  Abbie Fontana earned 1st place on both Balance Beam and Floor Exercise.  Heather Mullen’s Uneven Bar routine earned her 1st place on that event.

In the “B” Division, four gymnasts represented the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA.  Competing in the 12 and under age group, Brooke Vacarro earned 2nd place All Around and on Balance Beam.

 

Two Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA gymnasts competed in the 13 year old age group.  Abby Kennedy captured 1st place All Around.  Kennedy also received 1st place on Balance Beam, 2ndplace on Uneven Bars and 3rd place on Vault.  Kristy Cerini was awarded 3rd place All Around.  Cerini additionally earned 2nd place on Balance Beam and 3rd place on Floor Exercise.

 

Meghan Yessman competed in the 14 and over age group.  Yessman captured 1st place All Around as well as 1st place on Balance Beam and Uneven Bars, with a 2nd place on Vault.

 

The next home meet will be a “C” Division meet on Saturday, January 26th.  Open Registration at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA for the Early Spring Session of classes begins on January 19, 2013.  Early Spring classes begin on February 4th.  Gymnastics classes offered at the YMCA include parent-toddler and preschool classes.  Gymnastics classes for school-age girls are offered Monday through Saturday at the Martine Avenue facility.  Cheerleading classes are also available this session as well as birthday parties too!  For more information on Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA’s Gymnastic and Cheerleading programs, please call (908) 889-8880.
