Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Men's Basketball League Continues Into Week 8

The following information was provided by Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA.

Continuing with the electrifying play that has been exhibited, the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Men’s Basketball League hit week 8 of this 2013 season.  As the 6 teams jockey for playoff positions, 4 are tied for third place.

In game one, Court Masters, 53 and Above the Rim, 29. Both teams came into the game running with thin benches, missing players. Court Masters jumped out early, taking a 26-16 halftime lead.  As the second half continued, Court Masters took advantage of Above the Rim’s weak zone defense, pouring in more debilitating 3-pointers, finishing with 7 buckets from behind the arc.  Court Masters was led by Jason Pompeo (22 pts, 12 rebounds), and Greg Gardner (15 points, 10 assists).

Game two ended with Hooptown, 50 and Got Skillz, 43.  Playing with full rosters, both teams came prepared with depth on their benches anticipating a tough match up.  Riding the 3 point shooting of Ian Brown, Got Skillz was up 23-22 at half.   His 3-point marksmanship continued into the second half and he finished with 5 shots from behind the arc. But, it wasn’t enough to offset Brian Parker (16pts, 13 rebounds), Scott Lowder (18 pts, 6 rebounds, and Glen McDonald (10 points, 12 rebounds).

Game three ended with, Fast Break, 58 and Double Dribble, 55.  This was the closest contested game.  Looking to run away with the best record, Fast Break needed production from the triumvirate of Tim Gray (18 pts), Jason Holley (16 pts), and Jerry Baglien (12 pts)to beat ‘big-man’ play of Double Dribble’s Marlon Brown (13 rebounds, 16 pts, and 8 assists).  As the scoring continued with Christopher Mattina’s 18 pts, it looked like Double Dribble was going to get the victory, but it was not to be. Another close win for the league leading Fast Break.
