Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Men's Basketball League Continues Towards Playoffs

Here's a look at this week's YMCA Men's Basketball scores.

The following information was provided by the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA.

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Men’s Basketball League’s season continues to get closer to the playoffs with Fast Break clearly leading the pack with only one loss with the majority of the teams all hovering around .500.  This week saw a tight game between Courtmasters and Double Dribble with Courtmaster’s recording their second win.  Got Skillz, Above the Rim and Double Dribble all dropped below 500 with uncharacteristic losses today. It’s starting to get interesting!

Game one ended with Hoop town 53 and Above the Rim 37. This game started out tight with Above the Rim leading at the half 22 to 21 but it was all HoopTown in the second half outscoring Above the Rim 32 to 15.  It was a tough day for Above the Rim’s top scorer Jamal Berry.  He did lead the offensive charge for his team scoring 15 points but unfortunately he fouled out of the game. Hooptown poured it on in the second half with the hot hand of Brian Parker who scored 27 points and Scott Lowder who scored 12. Parker also controlled the boards with 16 rebounds to put this one away for Hooptown.

In Game two, Courtmasters 58 and Double Dribble 55. This was the tightest score of the day. Both teams fought hard in the first half with the score ending with Courtmasters leading 27 to 26 at the half. Stellar shooting and tough defense was the key to the Courtmaster’s win today.  Jason Pompeo was the leading scorer for Courtmasters with 22 points. Most of Pompeo’s points came in the second half as he was repeatedly sent to the line where he was 9 for 15. Courtmaster’s other hot hands were Joe Encarnacion and Gregg Carder both with 12 points. Jeff Genebazo was good for 6 pts from downtown as well. Double Dribble’s Marlon Brown was the game’s leading scorer with 25 points of which 12 were three point bombs as he tried to get the DD back in the game, Eric Halpin was the next leading scorer with 9 for Double Dribble.  Ultimately Courtmasters were able to fend off a last minute surge from Double Dribble to win the game.

Game three closed with Fast Break 47 and Got Skillz 34.  Fast Break continued their dominance in the league by beating Got Skillz in the final game of the day.  This was another game that saw the two teams evenly matched in the first half as Fast Break went into half time leading 18 to 17. Leading the charge for Fast Break was Tim Gray with a big first half 12 points to help his team set the tone as he finished the day with 16. Jerry Baglien and Steve Lee both came on strong scoring 15 and 12 points respectively for Fast Break as they took apart their opponents in the second half. The game was decided in the second half as Fast Break out scored Got Skillz 29 to 17 to finish them off. Although Got Skillz came up short, Kevin Gannon scored 11 points. Irvin Charleston and Tom St. John both had 6 points each. Kevin Gannon controlled the boards with 16 rebounds for Got Skillz but his effort was not enough for the win.
