Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Men's Basketball Returns Following Holiday Break

A look at how the men's basketball teams performed during their third week.

The following information was provided by the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA.

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Men’s Basketball League’s season got back to business after the Holiday break with three great match ups. Everyone was well rested and excited to get back to playing.  After the third week Fast Break remains the only undefeated team as The Courtmasters handed Got Skillz their first defeat.

In game one, Courtmasters 47 and Got Skillz 44.   Court Masters started strong and played hard under the boards with 30 rebounds adding points with second efforts as they outscored their opponent in the first half 32 to 23. Got Skillz was not out as they were able to tie the game in the last minutes but a three pointer by Courtmaster’s top shooter Jason Pompeo in the final two seconds won the game. A strong shooting performance was given by Joe Encarcion with 12 points. #7 Carder returned with a vengeance scoring 10 points.  Got Skillz was supported by their top scorer #23 Brown with 18 points on the day, of which 15 points were 3 point shots!

Game two ended with Hooptown 53 and Above the Rim 52.  Another tight game was witnessed as Above the Rim started strong and led at the half 25 to 21. Jamal Berry with 13 points in the first half led Above the Rim in scoring with a total of 27 points.  His offense was not enough to fend off the full court game Hooptown played in the second half.  Hooptown was able to work the fast break and long pass to gain an advantage at the end, handing Above the Rim, their 2nd loss. Above the Rim also saw #7 Glynn score 9 points. Hooptowns scoring leaders were #10 Parker with 14 points and #42 Colao with 11 points.

Game three concluded with Fast Break 73 and Double Dribble 44.  Fast Break earned their name today as they quickly jumped out to a commanding lead in the first half 37 to 14. Fast Break’s top shooter today was #55 Gray with 21 points of which 9 were from downtown. Baglien #4 also had a hot hand scoring 18 with 9 points from outside the circle. Double dribble rode the back of # 8 Brown as he scored 33 of their 44 points. It was a tough day for the rest of Double Dribbles offense, as no one else showed up to play. Double Dribble tried to fight back as Marlon Brown scored 19 points in the second half. Fast Break kept the pressure on and out scored  Double Dribble 36 to 30 in the second half.
