FSPY 8-and-Under Swimmers Post Best Times in State Meet

Three 8-year-old boys posted best times in every one of their races.

The 8-and-under swimmers from the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA competed against 28 Y teams from all across New Jersey at the recent YMCA 8 and Under State Championships. Each of FSPY's 20 swimmers posted a best time during the meet. The three 8 year-old boys, Kieran Scanlon, Logan D'Amore and  Christopher McArdle, posted best times in every one of their races.

A number of top ten finishes were also achieved. Eight-year-old Lauren Davidson was 3rd in the 25 yard Backstroke and 5th in the 50 Freestyle. Seven year-old Martha Lewand was 7th in the 25 Butterfly and 9thin the 25 Free, while 6-year-old Abigail Ryan touched  9th in both the 25 Breaststroke and 25 Butterfly.

In the relays, the 8&U Freestyle relay team of Rachel DiFabrizio, Sophia Iacona, Hannah Crisafulli and Davidson placed 13th and the team of Colette Franciscus, Caroline Trevino, Sofia Frias and Lucy Zhang was 25th. The 7-year-old team of Masha Volski, Sarah Arber, Grace Cull and Lewand placed 8th.

Helping these young members of the Piranhas swim team reach their best is Head age-group Coach Gillian Hauptman who summed up this season's effort as follows: "Each of these young swimmers worked very hard this year and now this is a strong and versatile group. Every one of them can compete in all four strokes. We're very proud of their accomplishments."
