Members of the Black Team placed high in the meet.

The following was submitted by the FSPY.

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains (FSPY) YMCA boys “Black” swim team recently battled fellow “A” division swim team, the Red Bank YMCA. It was a hotly contested meet with Red Bank edging FSPY in the end. Despite their second setback in a row, the Piranhas have turned in some excellent performances during the first part of their season.

For the 9-10 boys, Nick Heath and Brody Rash placed second and third respectively in the 50 yard backstroke. Kyle Foster was second in the 50 butterfly, Rash touched third in the 50 free, and Josh Davidson was third in the 50 breaststroke.

The 11-12 boys saw Alex Skoog return to action from an injury, and he swam very well placing first in the 50 free and 50 back. Marcel Green continued his outstanding season touching first in the 100 IM and 50 Fly. Those two together with teammates Matt Auda and newcomer Enzo Butrico held off a very fast Red Bank team in the 200 free relay.

The 13-14 swimmers got a first-place finish in the 100 back from Ryan Gajdzisz, who also touched second in the 200 IM. Aaron Markey was second in the 100 free as was Tyler Lessner in the 100 fly. First-year Piranha Anthony Gurrieri was third in the 100 free. The boys also touched first in their relay with Jeff Peart joining Gajdzisz, Gurrieri and Markey.

The senior boys (15-18 years-old) continued their early season dominant ways. Will Brown was first in the 100 free, with Alex Burzynski touching second. Burzynski was also second in the 200 back with Dan Napolitano touching third. In the 100 fly, Mike Napolitano was first  and Brown second. Greg Baliko touched second in the 200 IM and the 200 breast. The team of Brown, Baliko, Burzynski and Dan Napolitano capped off the meet with a thrilling win in the 200 free relay, barely out-touching a strong Red Bank relay.
