FSPY Girls Swim Team Defeats Ridgewood

The following information was submitted by the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA.

In their most recent meet, the Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA ("FSPY") girls "black" swim team defeated the Ridgewood YMCA, 116 to 94. Last year, FSPY lost each of its dual meets during its first season in the highly competitive YMCA "A" division. Through the Ridgewood victory, FSPY improved its dual meet record this year to two wins and two losses in this division.

In the 9-10 age group, first place finishes were earned by  Micaela Valli (freestyle), Julie Stankiewicz (backstroke), and Erika Frazier (butterfly). Frazier also touched second in the breaststroke, as did Stankiewicz in the individual medley ("IM"), and Emily Lockatell in the freestyle. Natalie Jablonski and Valli finished third in the breaststroke and backstroke, respectively. Stankiewicz, Jablonski, Frazier, and Lockatell formed the first place medley relay.

Sarah Davis finished second in both the freestyle and butterfly for the 11-12 age group. Maggie O'Connell touched second in the backstroke and third in the butterfly. Amanda Banasiak (freestyle), Isabella Iacona (breaststroke), and Casey Daudelin (backstroke) also finished third.

Medley relay members Katy Comer, Jodie Thompson, Molly Gaynor, and Sarah Cronin finished first in the 13-14 age group. Cronin, Thompson, and Gaynor also won the individual freestyle, breaststroke, and butterfly events, respectively. Comer touched second in both the freestyle and backstroke, as did Cronin in the butterfly and Gaynor in the IM. Thompson also finished third in the IM. 

Caitlin English (freestyle), Stephanie Baliko (breaststroke), and Jessica Cronin (backstroke) won individual events in the 15-18 age group. English also touched second in the backstroke, as did Hannah Markey in the breaststroke and Gabriella Levine in the butterfly. Jessica Colucci earned third place finishes in both the IM and butterfly, as did Micaela Lyons in the freestyle and Rebecca Dunn in the breaststroke. English, Baliko, Levine, and Colucci finished the meet with a first place performance in the medley relay.

This victory was bittersweet, as it was the final dual meet for five senior swimmers – Stephanie Baliko, Rebecca Dunn, Kelly Gajdzisz, Cassie Green, and Emily Piekarski. Head Coach Chris Feinthel congratulated these seniors for their successful dual meet careers and thanked them for their roles in the continuing development of the FSPY swim program.
