Gallery: Ceremony for the State Champions

The Board of Education honored the boys' swim team Thursday.

The boys’ swim team’s finest season on record reached perhaps its final conclusion Thursday. The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Board of Education convened a special ceremony to honor the team Thursday night, which clinched its first state title in history with a triumphant 90-80 win over Princeton on Feb. 27. The team and its coaches, Judy Sharkey and Jess Hulnik, received accolades from Board President Trip Whitehouse, Superintendent Margaret Hayes, Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School principal David Heisey and athletic director Ryan Miller. The swimmers then filed to the front of the room to formally receive certificates and medals, handshakes from board members and officials, and a resounding round of applause from the parents and family members who filled the gallery.
